The EchoHeart mission is to provide peace of mind, sooner, to caregivers and pregnant women of all shapes and sizes, around the world, by aiding in the detection of early fetal heart tone via the EchoHeart Transvaginal Probe.
Use of the EchoHeart Probe

In clinical trials the EchoHeart Probe detected the fetal heart tone (FHT) in 71% of patients between 6 and 8 weeks gestation.

Unlike ultrasound, the EchoHeart Transvaginal Probe does not provide a visual picture for instant location of the fetal heart.  Instead, it brings industry-standard Constant Wave Doppler technology in closer proximity to the uterus. As with any new instrument there is a learning curve, and providers using the EchoHeart Probe have found that detecting the fetal heart tone is simple to learn and easy to do.

  • Performing a bimanual exam to determine uterine placement before using the EchoHeart Probe is very helpful. 
  • Prepare the EchoHeart Probe as you would prepare a transvaginal ultrasound probe with gel and sheath. 
  • Think of the EchoHeart probe as an extension of your hand in the bimanual exam, and aim toward the fundus anteriorly, posteriorly, or midline as appropriate. 
  • Picture the transducer detection array as a flashlight.  Start deeper and scan slowly in all directions as you would an imaging probe.  Continue to scan as you slowly pull back performing more shallow exams.     
  • Keeping a hand on the abdomen to maintain a point of reference is often helpful.
As a new user to the EchoHeart Probe, you may find it helpful to begin with traditionally delayed abdominal detection rather than the very early detection.  Most find FHT detection success quickly with obese or retroverted patients at 10 - 12 weeks, and then "work back" to 9, 8, and 7 week detections. As one continues to use the EchoHeart Probe, the FHT detection gets quicker and easier.
